On Monday 6th February 2023, South East Türkiye and North West Syria were struck by two earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude. Latest reports say more than 10,000 people have been confirmed dead and 16,000 displaced so far. The number is rising by the hour with estimates placing total death toll at 50,000 and tens of thousands displaced.

Approximately 13.5 million people have been affected by this disaster across 10 provinces in Türkiyev. 5,000 people have been confirmed dead, more than 16,000 displaced, and these numbers are rising fast. 6,000 buildings (including homes) have been destroyed. Rescue operations are ongoing to save as many lives as possible.

North-west Syria has been impacted by a decade long war, with millions of displaced Syrians already living in camps. This region has some of the most vulnerable people in the country, who were already struggling with freezing temperatures this winter. Already weakened infrastructure, health facilities and communications are now close to shut down. The region is entirely reliant on international relief efforts to assist them deal with this emergency.
